Fuel oil, lubrication oil, thermal oil & even diesel under pressure, can represent an explosion hazard if the leak forms a “Mist” or “Vapour cloud” that later ignites. Flange and Valve Guards can reduce this risk by controlling the spray out, condensing the vapour into a liquid and producing a safe drip. Many customers have used our Guards to reduce / re-classify ATEX hazardous area as a part of a DSEAR review.
For oil mist applications we recommend the following materials;
Manufactured from All-PTFE materials (no fibreglass) comprising clear ECTFE outer and multi-layered PTFE mesh inner. This material provides unparalleled chemical resistance.
PDT Pressure Diffusion Technology
Multi-layered PTFE mesh specially formulated to diffuse pressure release, preventing spray and mist formation. The liquid simply drops vertically, removing all hazards
Industrialised & strengthened Velcro provides simple but highly effective means of fitting & removal
Litmus indicator patch
Immediate visual leak indication for acids & alkali applications. Easily replaced, so the shield doesn’t have to be.
This shield is cleverly design to fit multiple flange sizes. This means less stockholding and more flexibility.
The shield body contains no fibreglass. This means it will not degrade in highly aggressive chemical environments.
More than any other shield in our range, beware of cheap copies without adequate mesh or any form of testing. Our 316 st/st guard is well suited to Steam, Fuel oil, Lube oil, Diesel. All our designs are tested on our hydrostatic pressure test facility, test certificates are available on request.
Multi-layered steel mesh
Critical for safety, to avoid spray and unwanted mist formation (which is a consequence of ill-fitting shields with no mesh). The mesh effectively diffuses a pressure release, creating a safe vertical drip.
Provides quick and easy fitting & removal without any special tools. This is very useful for harsh environments where gloves, chem-suits and other conditions make installation difficult
All 316 stainless steel as standard
No weak points, 3.1b material certificates available on request.
The PTFE guard is manufactured from three layers of woven Teflon coated fibreglass fabric with a central Teflon scrim for strength. This material is inherently resistant to Ultra-Violet radiation & is ideally suited to concentrated acid & caustic duty as well Fuel / Lube oil.
Central Thick Scrim material
Added safety. Without this, a high pressure release can split the outer shield material, creating spray and mist.
Permeable Teflon material
Ensures leaking liquid is drawn away from the flange, thus avoiding corrosion (especially in acid duty). Some “non-permeable” shield designs can hold corrosive liquids against the flange.
100% Teflon Pull cord
Provides a strong, re-usable tie down.
Better resistance against corrosive atmospheres. Other shields use cotton threads which disintegrate quickly.
